SECTION A1: Intro to characters and setting scene.
The black fades away as your open your eyes. The blurry camera starts to focus.

JAX
What happened? I need to get out of here!

Camera raises as you stand.
JAX
The last thing I remember is the Voo Doo queen catching me going through her stuff.

You’re trapped in a cell of some sort, but you notice a small hole at the corner of the cell.

JAX
I still need to get that potion for my sister. Without it, she might not make it.

You look behind you and see a skeleton still in chains.

We hear the sound of Maman Brigitte WALKING UPSTAIRS and the sound of a DOOR OPENING and CLOSING.

JAX
I gotta get out of here!

The door to our cell is locked. When we walk up to it, it checks to see if we have the key using our GATING MECHANISM. We don’t have the key yet so it gives us a NEGATIVE BEEP. And says,

The player character talks to himself...

JAX
Maybe I can pick the lock.

SET OBJECTIVE: Objective text pops up in the middle of the screen.

Find a pick.

The player must walk around the cell until he finds a pick by getting close enough to activate the trigger around it. Once he does…
JAX
Yes! I have to be quiet…

I should probably check out these potion books.

If the player walks to the exit he tells himself,
JAX
I can’t leave. I need this potion for my sister. I came all the way here!

There is a potion called “Evermore.”
JAX
This is exactly what I need! Now I just have to find it.

Suddenly there is a creeking sound on the deck.
JAX
Oh no! She’s back!

Let a moment pass to let the new situation sink in, then
JAX
I better sort through this stuff fast!

JAX
I should go make sure the door is locked.

SET OBJECTIVE: Objective text pops up in the middle of the screen,
TEXT ONLY DIALOG
Lock door to give yourself more time.

After the player locks the door, he must go over to the potions cabinet.

You must sort through a series of potions. To find the correct one. Once it is found, it starts to glow.

JAX
I need to make sure I don’t hear the Voo Doo queen outside.

The candle she carries is moving to the other side of the house slowly. are just movers with triggers on them that match the shape of the light. If the player touches one he is caught.

The door handle starts to rattle.
VOO DOO QUEEN
I know you're in there!

The screen turns to black.

Architectural Assignment

Grunt

Like most schools, Freshman year at Ringling is the foundation year. I learned a variety of techniques for different mediums. We learned the basics of figure drawing, 2-D, and persepective, My observational skills have definitely grown because of freshman year. There is no doubt that overall I have gotten much better since I first came to Ringling. My final projects here were the Grunt assignment and the Cast Drawing assignment, which are the two pieces I felt most confident with. I received the most positive feedback towards the end of the year.

Game Design Level Analysis

For Game Design we were given the task of playing a game level and mapping out that level. The true focus of this assignment was to focus on how to level uses barriers and obstacles to barricade and guide the player, and how level designers barricade areas off in general. I used Metroid Prime's map and explored to find the doors and barricades. Displayed is part of Tallon Overworld, one of the maps in Prime.

Metroid Prime is the first of the Prime Trilogy. It takes place on Tallon IV. The Chozo race was wiped out by a meteor that crashed into the planet. The objective of the game is to stop the Space Pirates and stop the spreading of Phazon. In this game there are different suits and forms (ex gravity suit) that the player can use. In Metroid Prime, there are many Blue (Normal) Doors. You can open these doors with any weapon. White Doors can be opened with the Ice Beam weapon, Red Doors with the Plasma Beam, and Missile Doors which are destroyed by the Missile Launcher. There are also some doors that can only be accessed in Morph ball form.

Morph Ball Form

Samus scans things with her suit to figure out what they are before attacking them.

The levels are connected by elevators.

You need the correct beam to open each door. Although it is an action game, there are many puzzles along the way. You must collect power ups along the game to access areas that were barricaded off before.

Gravity Suit's primary function is to negate extreme gravitational effects around its wearer, such as zero gravity in space.

For class we interviewed people who work in industries that we are interested in. My choice was to interview an environment artist. Below is the link for my presentation.
